Talmud Torah School (offering grades Kindergarten to 9) and Talmud Torah Preschool are two separate organizations. Both schools believe that no Jewish child should be denied a Jewish education because the family cannot pay the full fees. Each one makes funds available for scholarships to pay for some or all of the cost for families in that situation. On behalf of the two schools, Jewish Family Services confidentially assesses applicants and recommends to each school what the scholarship amounts should be. If you feel you need assistance we encourage you to apply.
You may use a single application to apply for scholarships for all the children in your family attending either school. Our recommendations will be sent to either or both of the organizations’ boards as appropriate.

Other important information
- Is it really confidential? Jewish Family Services is bound by a Code of Ethics to keep all personal information in confidence. We will tell the school organizations only the amount we recommend for a scholarship, and will not provide any other personal information unless you have given us written permission to do so.
- Why do you ask for so much information? We aim to gain a complete and accurate picture of your household financial situation to determine how much of a scholarship to recommend, so we can be fair in allocating limited resources. Without such information our ability to make the most favourable recommendation for you may be limited.
- When should I apply? You can apply at any time, but we encourage you to apply as soon as you are planning for the next school year.
- We received a scholarship last year and our situation hasn’t changed. Do we need to apply again? Yes, the schools require a new assessment and recommendation each school year.
- Do I need to pay anything back? Are there any strings attached? The school may ask you to commit to a partial repayment in volunteer time. Also, we ask you to consider with generosity how you may contribute to the welfare of the community in the future, should your financial situation improve.
