“For some reason, and the reason is probably stated in a book by someone who knows more about my brain than I do, I have always found it easier to trust therapists more than other people. I am drawn to talking to someone who will challenge me to think about what I am saying/why I’m saying it. That said, I have not always been comfortable accepting “comfort” and nurturing from therapists – I’d often deflect with humor or subject changes. I have noticed myself doing that less in our sessions, which tells me that your version of care/nurturing is somehow easier for me to accept. Thank you for being an example of care that I did not know was possible :)”
